Attack on British novelist Salman Rushdie

Indian-origin British novelist Salman Rushdie, the author of ‘The Satanic Verses’, has been attacked. He was attacked while speaking on a stage in the US state of New York. The Booker Prize-winning author was being introduced to a lecture at the Shitoqua Institution on Friday when a man took to the stage and attacked him.

Witnesses said they saw a man running towards the stage, and when Salman introduced Rushdie, he either punched him or stabbed him. He was taken to the hospital immediately after the incident.

In a video posted online, some viewers can be seen rushing towards the stage. The people present there were reportedly able to stop the attacker. However, his actual condition is not known.

The entire auditorium was evacuated immediately after the incident. Police in New York said the attacker had been arrested. He is in police custody.
