3,000 Rohingyas going to Bhasan Char in 5th phase

Another 3,000 Rohingyas are going to Bhasan Char in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali, in the 5th phase of Rohingya relocation, from the Teknaf and Ukhiya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.
They are scheduled to leave for Chattogram on Tuesday. For this, the Rohingyas have gathered at the transit point at Ukhiya Degree College ground like before.

Meanwhile, the journey will be made separately for two days as before. Earlier, 9,540 Rohingyas were relocated to Bhasan Char in Noakhali in four phases.

The buses will leave the Ukhiya Degree College ground area in two parts a day and leave for Chattogram. These vehicles are being prepared in advance. Rohingyas started coming to the transit point from the entire 34 camps.

Many arrived at the transit point on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Those who leave for Bhasan Char on Wednesday will arrive at the transit point on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning to noon. More than 50 buses, multiple covered vans and other necessary vehicles have been prepared for the two-day journey.

However, none of the concerned authorities has officially commented in this regard.

The Rohingyas who are willing to go to Bhasan Char are submitting their names to the office in charge of their respective camps, said the boatmen of the Ukhiya Rohingya camp.

After briefing about the environment and accommodation facilities in Bhasan Char, the process of relocation through registration is being completed, they added,

According to the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) office in Cox’s Bazar, 9,540 Rohingyas have been relocated to Bhasan Char from the Cox’s Bazar camp in four phases till February 15. In the first phase on December 4, about 1,642 Rohingyas went there voluntarily. Then on December 29, another 1,805 people relocated in the second phase and 3,200 Rohingyas – in the third phase on January 28 and 29 – were relocated to Bhasan Char. Besides, 3,021 more Rohingyas, in the fourth phase, reached Bhasan Char on February 15 and 16.

When the atrocities against the Rohingyas started in Rakhine, Myanmar on August 25, 2017, at least 800,000 Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh. Even before this, several lakh more Rohingyas had taken up shelter in Bangladesh at different times. Currently, the number of Rohingyas registered in 34 refuge camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf is about 11.5 lakh.
