Covid: Bangladesh detects 991 more cases

Bangladesh on Tuesday confirmed 991 more coronavirus cases over the latest 24 hours to bring the total caseload to 517,920. Besides, the casualties from the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, have surged to 7,670 with the deaths of 20 more people during the period. Of the new deceased, 16 are men and four are women. Among the total dead, 5,831 are men while 1,839 are women.

Currently, there are 47,791 active cases in the country. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon. As per the press release, 944 more people recovered from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries to 462,459. The recovery rate also continued to improve in the country standing at 89.29 percent. During the period, 14,462 samples were tested in 180 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,286,885 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate, an indicator of the prevalence of the disease, was recorded at 6.85 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.76 percent Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.48 percent. On Monday, the country recorded 24 deaths and 910 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,096 samples with a positivity rate of 7.52 percent.

Meanwhile, the death tally from the coronavirus around the world has reached 1,860,540 as of Tuesday morning. Besides, the virus has so far infected 86,105,851 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer. Of the currently infected 23,187,611 patients, 23,079,753 are in mild condition while 107,858 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 61,057,700 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 21,353,051 and 362,123 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,357,569 and third highest fatalities of 149,886 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 196,591 and third highest cases of 7,754,560.
